Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to have a skin test before a colour service?
This is to determine whether you are likely to have an allergic reaction and must be done at least 48 hours before your appointment.
Am I likely to get an allergic reaction to Kevin Murphy color.me when I have had my hair coloured numerous times and used home hair dye?
Even though Kevin Murphy color.me is less likely than other brands to cause a reaction due to the fact that it does not contain ammonia or PPD’s it is still possible for person to react to the ingredients contained in it. Therefore, it is necessary for every client for a colour service to have a skin test.
How long will my colour process take?
Because Kevin Murphy is ammonia free, it lifts hair using a more natural process without heat. Typically, a root colour takes up to 45 minutes, and highlift can take up to 55 minutes. With other brands this isn’t normally the case and heat processors can be used to quicken up the application therefore causing damage to the hair leaving it dry and brittle.
How quickly will my colour fade?
This depends on how often you wash your hair and what shampoo and conditioner you use. If you use a shampoo that contains sulphates, then your colour will fade much quicker than if you use a shampoo with as many natural ingredients as possible and is sulphate and paraben free. Toners on blonde hair can last up to approximately 6 weeks with good aftercare. Sunlight can also affect the longevity of your colour causing it to fade.
Why can you not give me an exact colour price over the phone?
If you are a new client, we can give you an estimate over the phone. When you come in for a skin test we can give you a more accurate price. With regular clients this is not the case as we will be aware from previous visits. Every colour process is individual so we need to see your hair prior to any colour service.
Do I need to wash my hair prior to a colour service?
Normally you do not need to wash your hair but, if you use a root cover up or spray/powder this may interfere with penetration of colour. In this case it is advisable to wash the product out before you come to the salon.
I am on medication will this affect my colour application?
Some medication can affect colour processing causing a chemical reaction within the hair shaft, so it is vital to take this into consideration when booking an appointment.
